Airport: YBAS - Alice Springs Airport, N. Territory, Australia
This is a domestic airport within Australia though it does receive international charters from time to time. It’s located near the southern border of Australia’s Northern Territory.
The airport started as a commercial strip in 1921 but became a primary military field in the late 1930s. It was built up to two runways, the longest being 8,000ft. In 2011 it was announced that an aircraft boneyard would be established here, but not nearly as big as the one in Tucson, Arizona. It could only house 100 aircraft but due to many fleets storing their planes here during the pandemic it quickly filled to capacity. In Sep 2020 plans were implemented to expand the boneyard to accommodate 200 additional aircraft.
