Airport: YMHB – Hobart International Airport, Tasmania
Tasmania is an Australian state so its primary routes to Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane are considered domestic, while Air New Zealand’s Auckland service is international. Hobart also serves as a gateway to Antarctica, with Skytraders operating regular A319 research charters.
The airport’s peninsula location and low surrounding population allow for curfew-free operations; however, efficiency is limited by the airfield layout. Because the two terminal taxiways connect near the runway's center, aircraft must back-taxi to reach the ends for takeoff or to exit after landing, which increases runway occupancy time for following traffic.
Although a 2009 master plan proposed extending parallel taxiways to both ends to resolve this, no ground preparations were evident by mid-2026. This plan also includes expanding the general aviation ramp space to prepare for the potential closure of nearby Cambridge Aerodrome, which its owners have been legally permitted to decommission since 2004.
