Airport: TJPS - Mercedita International Airport, Puerto Rico
This airport is the smallest of the island’s three international airports, located on the southern shore on the far side from San Juan. From its inception in 1939, the field was used for little more than local inter island flights. The airport has been enlarged on multiple occasions, and in 1962 began a daily service to the Virgin Islands. In 1992 the runway was extended to allow American Airline flights to Miami. In 2010 it was extended again to its current length of 8,000ft. This is in anticipation of increased cargo traffic to the area as Ponce has begun construction to convert its current port into a massive shipping cargo megaport.
REMINDER - There are only two flights in the Open division schedules coming to TJPS (from KJFK and KMCO). If you'd like to fly from somewhere else you can by creating a flight using the Charter division. Just be sure the flight length is 100nm or more to get credit for the DotM.
