Airport: SCIE – Carriel Sur International Airport, Chile
Carriel Sur Airport serves as the primary aviation gateway to the Biobío Region and the city of Concepción, situated approximately 500km south of Santiago near the geographic midpoint of Chile’s long coastline. Since its inauguration in January 1968, the airport has evolved from a local replacement for the old Hualpencillo airfield into a critical piece of national infrastructure. A major modernization project in 2000 introduced a contemporary terminal equipped with glass-walled jetways, streamlined customs and immigration areas, duty-free shopping, and executive lounges. Further expansions in the late 2010s nearly doubled its capacity, allowing it to manage over two million passengers per year.
